The Gallery

The Edifice: [Lived In] Gallery was open for viewing from May 9th to May 19th, 2023 at 808 Commonwealth Ave Gallery. Featuring thesis designs and free merchandise (created by the 2D team) including, posters, keychains, magnets, stickers, and postcards. The eclectic home of projects and collected furniture successfully represented the Class of 2023 Graphic Designers’ love and claim to 808 Studio as their home away from home for the past 4 years.

The “Room” Concepts

Due to the gallery being a simple open layout there was the challenge of developing the space in a way that would best represent all 41 thesis designs. With the help of the curitorial team we divided up all 41 thesis projects into groups of related topics. Using these grouplings and provided moveable walls the layout team developed a layout, currating designs into different “rooms” such as the ‘bedroom’, “kitchen”, “vanity”, and the more. By having these mock “room” divisions we were able to create a layout with a nice flow of the space and connected to the over curitorial statment of [LIVED IN].

The SketchUp Model

To help with communicating the concept of the exhibition design layout to other teams I developed a SketchUp model. SketchUp is a 3D modeling program, which allowed me to develop our imagined layout into a digital mockup. Which made it easier to develop the layout design.
